8/3/2013 at Citizens Bank Park- myGameBalls.com BallhawkFest
Ballhawking wise, this was a slowwwwwww game however, it was okay due to the fact that it was BallhawkFest. Slightly before 10 AM, I arrived at FDR Park, where the ballhawks would play some sort of game.
When I got to the field, Todd Cook of Cook and Son Bats was throwing to Tim. (i don’t need to introduce them anymore, do I?)
The rules for our game were simple. We were playing a derby and each batter had two outs per inning. Homeruns or uncaught balls in the outfield counted as points. Whatever team had the most points after five rounds won the derby.
Here is Zack Hample getting in some cuts:
Along with Todd.
Once we finished the derby,
From L-R: Top row- Jenny Bang Bang, Benny Bang Bang, Rick Gold, Alex Kopp’s dad, Alan Shuster, Alex Kopp, Quinn Imiola, His dad (I think), Zack, Rick Sporcic, Jeremy Evans, and Max Pinsky. The middle row is Todd and I and the bottom is Tim and Kellan.
After we were finished with our game, we headed over to McFaddens (connected to Citizens Bank Park) where we ate lunch. There, we were presented with our BallhawkFest shirts.
Our table was Zack, Ben, Jen, Todd, Tim, Kellan and I.
Once done with lunch, we all went to the left field gate with less than a half hour until gates opened.
Here we are as a group. We are ordered by the amount of baseballs snagged, going from highest to lowest.
From a ballhawking standpoint, things were not looking good for us. There was no BP and a tarp on the field meaning that there would be a little amount of baseballs going out to a lot of ballhawks. Many of us were certain that we were facing a shutout.
Once the gates opened, we ran to left field to find a couple pairs of Braves pitchers throwing.
However, the tarp was pulled off the field and miraculously, the Phillies were stretching, readying to take BP.
After a half hour or so, I was still getting shut out. I headed to the Pizza Wedge, looking for tossups to save the day.
Zack Miner, the Phillie who was in right wasn’t tossing anything up, even baseballs directly below me. When a ball rolled up to the warning track about 50 feet away, Jake Diekman walked over to the ball, picked it up, walked over to me and then, put me on the board.
That was it for BP. I got a text saying where to meet up for our group picture and as you can see, almost everyone snagged a ball.
However, that wasn’t it for the snagging. I got a ball from the bullpen. And of course, it was from Jesus Tiamo, my favorite coach.
I was sitting in the 200′s during the game however,
shortly after Zack caught John Mayberry’s homerun in the second inning,
I moved down to section 103 with Mateo.
The people in our area were: 1) Mateo. 2) Tim and Quinn, 3) Zack and Ben and 4) Alan, Todd and Kellan. Chris and Alex were also out there but I didn’t get pictures of them.
Thanks to everyone at myGameBalls for a sucessful BallhawkFest. Hope to see you all next year!
Many thanks go to Zack for the BiGS shirt, BiGS for all of the seeds, Todd for the Darryl Strawberry shirt, Alan for the ball cube and obviously, Jake Diekman and Jesus Tiamo (you too, Rich Dubee).
