8/22/13 at Citizens Bank Park
From the time we pulled up to the parking lot, I knew for sure that batting practice would be a no-go.
When the gates opened, I wasn’t too concerned because there were 13 people waiting to get in.
As expected: the tarp was on the field.
This is what left field looked like.
It was a perfect waste of empty space.
However, Josh Outman came out to throw with Jeff Francis.
When they were finished up, the tarp was being pulled and, Outman hooked me up from far away.
Here is a picture of the ball along with Outman, circled in red to show where he was standing when he threw it.
There wouldn’t be any more action for fourty minutes, and that would occur down the third base line.
The first of those three balls was flipped up to me.
That was baseball 297.
298 was a Jesus Tiamo tossup however, it wasn’t as easy as normal. The first time, some kid smacked the ball down with his bare hand and on the second time, he caught the ball with his bare hands. But a minutes or so later, Jesus came through.
During the game, I played over by the bullpen hoping that I could snag two more balls and make 300 a MLB ball.
When BJ Rosenberg got into the pen, I was ready to go.
Three hundred was not easy to come across. First, I had to watch Pat Burgess throw the commemorative (I think) warm-up ball to someone on Ashburn Alley, then, he threw me the next warm-up ball but some kid jumped in and took it. When Burgess emptied out the bullpen bag in the ninth inning, 300 finally came.
139 Baseballs caught in 2013 (300 overall)
